"Havel" – The Series of Three Paintings
Identity, Hope, and Victory – a harmonious whole inspired by the thoughts of Václav Havel.
Each painting serves as a visual expression of the power of words and ideas through 3D letters that emerge from colorful canvases and protrude from the white walls on which they hang. From a distance, the letters may seem to vanish and become nearly invisible. However, upon closer inspection, their diversity becomes apparent, and from different angles, one can observe varying depths. This approach emphasizes the importance of perspective.
Identity represents the uniqueness of each individual, the need to understand and respect differences without losing our own essence. As Havel once said, “Understanding each other does not mean conforming, but understanding our own identity.”
Hope is the state of mind that guides us even through the unpredictability of the results of our efforts. It is not the belief that everything will turn out well, but the certainty that our actions have meaning, as Havel stated: “Hope is not the conviction that something will turn out well, but the certainty that something makes sense.” This hope gives us the strength to continue in the face of challenges.
Victory then emphasizes courage and perseverance in the fight for justice. It doesn’t matter how many people celebrate success, but how many are willing to fight for it. This principle encourages us to follow our values and unpopular truths, as Havel expressed: “You must never judge a situation by how many people celebrate the victory, but only by how many are willing to fight for it.”
The combination of these three paintings – Identity, Hope, and Victory – forms the symbolic letter H, representing Havel’s values and his vision of the meaning of human existence, understanding, courage, and hope for a better future.
