My name is Dagmar Ševčíková, and I invite you to explore my art gallery, where I share my perspective on the world. A world in which emotions, symbolism, and stories hidden beneath the surface of what we see intertwine.

Every painting is an opportunity for me to capture a story. I believe that stories and art have a unique ability to touch each of us in different ways. Sometimes they awaken a memory, other times they offer a new perspective or leave us with a particular feeling that is difficult to put into words.

This is where I find the magic of my work. In the space a painting opens up, a space that stays with us even when we are no longer looking at it.

I tell stories in a different way than through words. When I paint, I feel as though I am writing a book. Individual colours, layers, textures, and three-dimensional elements become part of a narrative that gradually takes shape. Just as an author writes a book so that its story can reach readers, I, too, create with the hope of sharing my work with others. Not to offer everyone the same answer, but to allow the story to reach another person.

In my creative process, I seek ways to give a story a tangible form without taking away its depth. I bring individual elements together, allowing them to complement one another and form a whole in which every detail has its place. The result is a work that carries my artistic intention while remaining open to new connections and interpretations.

Some things, after all, are far easier to feel than to describe. That is why I do not see my paintings as stories with a single correct interpretation. Each person brings their own experiences and memories to them and may therefore discover something different. The story I begin to tell may awaken an entirely new idea in someone else or take on a meaning I could never have anticipated.

I believe that art and stories can transcend the boundaries of time and distance, as well as the differences between people. They preserve experiences, remind us of values, and allow us to glimpse worlds we have never experienced ourselves. That is why I believe the stories hidden within paintings can continue to resonate long after they are created and carry their message forward.

For me, a painting’s journey does not end when it is finished. When it finds its owner, a new chapter in its existence begins. It becomes part of a different environment, someone’s everyday life, and the personal memories of the person who chose it. My original intention thus becomes intertwined with their own world, and the artwork acquires another dimension whose direction I can no longer determine in advance.

I consider this connection one of the most beautiful aspects of my work. I can create an artwork with a message of its own, but its further meaning emerges only when it encounters someone who connects with it. That is when my story also becomes someone else’s story.
