HOPE

This painting was created by merging two ideas of Václav Havel that together form a dialogue about what moves us forward, even in moments when we cannot yet see the path. “Hope is a state of mind that gives meaning to our life” and “Hope is not the conviction that something will turn out well, but the certainty that something makes sense, regardless of how it turns out” meet in this work as two parts of a single story. Here, hope does not appear as a wish or belief in a good ending, but as a steady and quiet energy that carries a person even through uncertainty. It is an inner strength growing from values, responsibility, and the feeling that what we do is worth continuing.

The first quote speaks of hope as a light within, while the second reminds us that true value lies in the decision not to stop, even when we cannot yet see the outcome. Together they create an image of human courage that does not wait for certainties to begin living.

In the painting, cold and warm color tones meet as complementary opposites. Cool shades bring calm and reflection; warm colors are a gentle spark of life. Their connection creates a space in which hope finds its form. In this balance, a sense arises that every breath, every step, and every thought can hold meaning, even when we do not yet know exactly where they lead.

The 3D letters emerging from the painted surface are solid symbols of ideas that retain their strength regardless of the surrounding changes. Each has its own depth—just as in the paintings IDENTITY and VICTORY, their side surfaces are white. This color carries the meaning of purity, truth, and transparency of the values that were essential to Havel. It surrounds the letters like light and reveals how strong ideas can be when they are grounded in truth. Thanks to this symbolism, the letters appear to rise from the space, reminding us that hope is strongest when it is quiet, truthful, and grows from within.

Only the angle of view reveals their true depth and strength. From the front, the text blends with the background, but as soon as the viewer shifts slightly, the structure emerges and appears in a new dimension. Hope is born in the same way. Sometimes it is invisible, nearly indistinguishable among colors and shadows, but a subtle change in our inner attitude is enough for it to reveal itself as something full of life and power. It is a quiet presence that waits until a person discovers it for themselves.
