Memories

There are things we do not remember, yet they still shape us. They are stored deeper than words and deeper than the stories we tell about ourselves. They live in the body and in our reflexes, in feelings of safety and longing that appear without a clear reason. It is from this quiet space — where memory is not narrated but felt — that the painting Memories was created.

The vertical waves are memories in shades of green and pink — with only the faintest touch of violet — and they are not painted by chance. They represent the life force that pulsed within us long before we were able to name it. They are emotion, the first experience of love as well as loss. They are also intuition, which knows without explaining why. All of these waves exist beside one another; they never fully merge, yet they are never completely separate. Just as different layers of lived experience coexist within us.

The upper, smaller part of the painting belongs to childhood. We remember less from it. Childhood felt long while we were living it, yet time has taken much of it away and left us only what mattered most. And yet this incompleteness is also a gift. What remained, remained because it carried weight. Memory is not an archive. It is a selection made for us by something deeper than reason.

And then there is the blue wave. It is time itself, carrying within it a paradox that every one of us knows. The more we live, the more memories are stored within us, yet at the same time more of them quietly dissolve into depth. The wave does not take memories away in order to hurt us. It carries them away so that there is space for new ones. It is the natural breathing of memory.

The lower, larger part of the painting represents everything that comes after childhood. More spacious, richer, more complex. Memories accumulate here and become enriched, and although the blue wave continues to flow, the total sum of what remains within us keeps growing.

Memories is not about nostalgia or sorrow. It is about being alive, and about the traces that living leaves behind. About the blue wave not being an enemy, but a guide. About how the longer we journey, the more we carry.

And that is not a burden. It is proof that we were here.
