Blue In-Between
There are places that no one has ever drawn on a map. A space between words and expectations. Places that seem empty, and yet are full of life.
From the very beginning, we learn to walk along marked paths and accept the structure into which we are born. It is not necessarily wrong. Rules give life its shape. But sometimes we forget that between them there is a space that no one has defined and no one claims.
This painting is about a place like that. A space that is literally visible on the canvas. A dense network of vertical and horizontal lines made of structural paste covers the entire canvas, unified by deep blue – the color of the sky, water, and calm. The horizontal lines represent time, flowing and direct. The vertical ones are cross-sections of life – relationships, decisions, crossroads. The lines shine. They are convincing, smoothly beautiful, alluring. Exactly the way rules always seem to us when someone presents them with the assurance that this is the right way.
And yet – between those lines there is space. And it is there that four blue butterflies live. Four like the four cardinal directions, the four seasons, the four phases of life. Each flies in a different direction, each has found its own place in a world that once seemed completely mapped out in advance. The butterflies share the same blue as the entire painting – they are not in conflict with the world around them; they are its natural part. They have simply chosen to live in another layer of it.
They rise from the surface into space and possess a depth that the lines will never have. Above them shines the sun, which existed long before any rule and will remain long after it. Eternal and impartial, it finds everyone, and the shadow beneath each butterfly is its quiet proof – a confirmation that it is real.
Freedom is not about breaking rules.
It is about the space that has always existed between them.
You only have to notice it.
