Calm in motion
This painting is one of a pair created as an extension of the main work The Angle of View.
While the central piece speaks about truth remaining unchanged, and only our perspective shifting, this warm painting shows what our view can become when there is light and calm within us.
Within a regular grid, gently curved segments appear, each with a recessed center that changes color depending on how close the viewer stands and from which angle they observe the work.
In one moment you may perceive a pink, pearlescent touch; in the next, a glimmer of gold. Nothing is physically changing – only the light, you, and your angle of view.
And that is where the symbolism lies.
The warm tones represent the softness and openness that arise in us in moments of stillness.
The pink pearl evokes the times when we can see the world with ease, without pressure or expectation.
Gold symbolizes the inner light that appears whenever we allow ourselves to be present.
The circular forms, shaped like half-spheres, remind us that things are neither full nor empty – they are open. Open to one’s own experience.
Their recess is not a negative space but an invitation to look inward.
And when the viewer takes just one step to the side, the painting shifts. Just as a person shifts when looking at their own life from a slightly different place – even by a millimeter.
The artwork is therefore not just an abstract composition.
It is a map of subtle transformations that unfold between us and the world.
It shows that we perceive warmth only when we carry it within ourselves.
We see the golden shimmer only when we allow the light to reach us.
And the pink pearlescence appears where we are willing to remain open – to ourselves and to others.
Calm in Motion tells us that even though the light changes, the viewer moves, or the angle shifts, the painting itself remains steady, balanced, and serene.
