This work is a tribute to sapphire – the noble corundum in shades of blue, traditionally regarded as a stone of wisdom, loyalty, and protection. Its color is deep and serene, like a gaze into the silence between thoughts.

On the canvas, a dark blue wave dominates, like a silent current of time – invisible yet ever-present. Its movement is smooth, soothing, and still carries the strength of the ocean. Rising from the wave is a dark blue butterfly, a messenger of truth and trust, whose fragility reminds us that even the most delicate can bear immense strength. The entire palette of the painting stems from sapphire’s tones – deep blue shifting into softer shades that dissolve into space, much like light passing through a crystal.

Sapphire itself is a variety of corundum – a mineral composed of pure aluminum oxide. Traces of iron and titanium give it its blue hues, while other elements create rare pink, yellow, or purple varieties. Formed deep within the Earth over millions of years, it is solid, pure, and almost as hard as diamond. Since ancient times it has been considered a stone of kings and spiritual depth, associated with loyalty, protection, and clarity of mind. In India, yellow sapphires symbolized enlightenment, while in the West the blue sapphire is seen as a stone of wisdom and inner stability.

The painting’s symbolism arises from the essence of this mineral. The wave represents time and the rhythm of life, a constant movement that can be embraced with calm and trust. The butterfly is a symbol of transformation – fragility becoming freedom, silence becoming wisdom.
