Dual face
The painting Double Face works with the symbolism of the butterfly as an embodiment of beauty, fragility, and transformation. It is a comparison to human nature, showing that what we see at first glance is only part of the whole.
The left half of the butterfly is depicted realistically, with rich color gradients and delicate details. It represents harmony, aesthetics, and the impression a person radiates outwardly. This part symbolizes the first perception – what others see when they meet us.
The right half, in contrast, consists of many geometric fragments gradually dispersing into space. This element refers to the complexity of the inner world – the layers of emotions, thoughts, experiences, joys, and wounds that together form a complex mosaic of personality. It is a reminder that beneath the surface of every person lies a rich and unique inner universe.
The contrast between the two halves – wholeness and fragmentation – emphasizes that human identity is never uniform. Outer harmony can mask inner complexity, just as inner richness may not always be visible at first sight. The painting thus opens the theme of authenticity, depth, and value, which cannot be captured by a superficial glance.
Double Face is a visual and symbolic expression that each of us is a unique whole, composed of the outwardly perceived image and the inner complexity that gradually reveals itself. The artwork is an invitation to look deeper – at ourselves and at others.
